Every week I bring you the latest Adwords News. This week’s stories are about Google limiting Rehab Advertisers, how landing pages affect quality score, the dos and don’ts of PPC and a debate about the meaning of SEM.
GOOGLE LIMITS ADDICTION REHAB ADVERTISING, GIVING UP TENS OF MILLIONS IN AD REVENUE
Last week Google announced it will limit paid search advertising on addiction treatment/rehabilitation centers in an effort to protect consumers from deceptive or unfit providers, as well as lead aggregator sites that sell consumers’ contact information to the highest bidder.1
This is an interesting story that shows Google do care about the public well being and are prepared to give up Advertising revenue to ensure people suffering from addictions aren’t taken advantage of. This article looks at Google’s limitations on addiction rehab advertising from a view point of how much revenue they will be giving up. It’s incredible how many advertisers are competing for these keywords and the amounts they’re spending per click.
How do search results landing pages affect quality score?
I’m wondering how search results pages used a landing page affects the QS, if at all? What can we do, if anything, to improve QS?2
This was an interesting question posed on reddit. Based on a Udemy Adwords course I took recently the estimate is that the landing page makes up 10-15% of a keywords quality score. 60-70% is the click through rate (CTR) and the remaining is the relevancy of the ad.
PPC Do’s and Don’ts #semrushchat
Running a Pay-Per-Click (PPC) campaign can be one of the fastest and most effective ways to drive quality and highly targeted traffic to your website and landing page. When done right, PPC can deliver immediate results, helping your business get to the top of the SERPs. When done wrong, you run the risk of pouring your money down the drain.3
It’s easy to spend a truck load of money on PPC. SEMRush have made our lives easy by pulling together a list of dos and don’t for PPC. If you’re thinking of running paid ads check out this article and make sure you’re up to speed with these best practices. Should save you a buck or two!.
What is SEM?
The first one is pretty easy. You now know what SEM means in its most basic form – “search engine marketing”. However, the issue is that even those in the SEM industry will disagree on what the component parts of search engine marketing are or what the main focus of SEM is.4
It’s amazing what we’ll get into debates about. This debate is all about what SEM actually means. In my opinion it represents paid search ads and covers Adwords, Facebook Ads, YouTube Ads, Display Ads etc etc – do you have a strong opinion on what SEM is all about?
