SEO agencies tend to favour offering their services in terms of monthly packages or plans.

Usually the packages are split into the number of keywords the client wants to rank for.

I’m certainly not saying this is the best way to package monthly SEO services but rather that this is the most popular way for SEO agencies to price their services.

Of-course these calculators assume that the money you spend on SEO will generate higher traffic to your website over time.

Finally, I’ll look into the cost of SEO in various countries.

Obviously SEO in first world countries is expensive due to the higher cost of living.

But does it make sense for a company based in the US, for example to hire a firm in India due to the lower price.

There really is no limit to how much SEO costs on a monthly basis.

It depends on:

• how competitive your market is and
• whether you outsource the work to 3rd world countries

If you’re a fortune 500 company you could easily spend $100,000 or more on SEO every month.

But if you’re a small business then a reasonable range is between $500-$3000 per month.

The only way to determine how much SEO costs per month is to get a number of quotes from SEO agencies.

The cost of doing SEO can be broken down into 5 components:

1. The cost of creating SEO optimised content
2. The cost of SEO tools such as audit tools, rank tracking tools and link strength tools
3. The cost of acquiring links or social signals
4. The cost of sending traffic to the target page
5. The cost of project managing an SEO campaign

• Content creation can be done in-house and the cost is then the cost of your time or your staff’s time. It can also be outsourced to a writer. First world writers can cost between US$20-30 per hour.
• SEO tools can really start to add up. The cost of website auditor is $300+ , the cost of pro-rank tracker is $50+ and the cost of AHrefs is $110+
• The cost of acquiring links or social signals can also be done by an in-house team or outsourced. High quality guest posts can cost between US$50 – $150 per post.
• The cost of sending traffic to a target page depends on what platform you’re using to send the traffic. An easy option is to setup a Facebook campaign with a cost of $5 per day.
• The cost of project managing an SEO campaign depends on whether you have an in house project manager or you outsource this to a freelancer or SEO agency. In the first world expert SEO project managers can cost between US$50-US$100 per hour.

The monthly costs of SEO vary in different countries due to the various costs of living in these countries.

The cost of living in the US, Canada and Australia is similar and therefore SEO costs in these countries will be similar.

The cost of living in India is much cheaper than the cost of living in the US, Canada and Australia and therefore the cost of SEO is much cheaper in comparison.

SEO professionals based in the US are prepared to work for between US$32 – US$100 per hour according to upwork.com.

This makes SEO in the US the most expensive compared to SEO in Canada, Australia and India.

SEO is a huge market and ranking in google.com is highly competitive and therefore it makes sense that SEO professionals in the US can charge higher rates.

SEO experts based in India are prepared to work for between US$8 – US$35 per hour according to upwork.com.

This makes SEO in India the least expensive.

India is a massive country with a population of 1.3 billion. The cost of living in India is 5 times less than the United States. For these reasons it makes sense that SEO experts in India charge lower hourly rates.

SEO freelancers based in Canada are prepared to work for between US$18 – US$80 per hour according to upwork.com.

SEO freelancers in Canada aren’t as expensive as the US but are more expensive than India.

SEO is a large market in Canada and ranking in google.ca is competitive but it’s not as big a market and as competitive as the US. Therefore it makes sense that SEO freelancers in Canada are cheaper than their counterparts in the US.

SEO gurus based in Australia are prepared to work for between US$15 – US$75 per hour according to upwork.com.

Australian SEO gurus cost about the same as Canadians.

SEO is a large market in Australia and ranking in google.com.au is competitive but it’s not as big a market and as competitive as the US. Therefore it makes sense that SEO gurus in Australia are cheaper than their counterparts in the US.
