Every week I bring you the latest Adwords News. This week’s stories are about new Adwords reporting for shopping Ads, how to write better, KPI’s for PPC and running experiments.
Google AdWords Will Track How Often Your Shopping Ad is Displayed First
Google AdWords will now report on how often one of your shopping ads appears in the top position. The new report is called ‘absolute top impression share.
Matt shares the latest Google Adwords news on the Search Engine Journal blog. It’s a new report that will give more information about shoppings Ads. I don’t have any clients that require shopping ads (yet 🙂 ) so I can’t comment on whether this is a good thing or not. It would appear though that this will be a welcome change for Adwords advertisers. Let me know in the comments if this is a good change.1
How to Write Customer-Focused Content That Converts
Part of your job is to become an expert on the services or products of the company that you work for. While this expertise is extremely valuable, it can actually hurt you when it comes to creating content that relevantly speaks to your customers.
Greg wrote this article on the search engine journal blog on Friday. Although this is an article under the banner of content marketing, I think it is highly applicable to Adwords advertising. Landing pages that convert are a very important part of Adwords. In this article, Greg shares practical tips on how to improve your writing to better appeal to your target audience. I think this is a good read for folks looking to improve their conversions.2
How to Identify Which Experiments to Run
Before you come up with experiments to run, you need to make sure you can accurately run them. Experiments should be completely off the table until you have an established online presence and means to track behavior.
In this article on the Hub Spot blog, Matthew explains what you need to do to run statistically sound experiments. Matthew shares the 5 things you need. This is a great article for Adwords advertisers to read and understand. In my opinion far too many small businesses either don’t run any experiments at all or rely on too little data. How many unique page views a day do you think it takes to reach statistical significance?3
The 10 Most Important PPC KPIs You Should Be Tracking
Key performance indicators, or KPIs, are used across almost every industry as a metric of how well something is or isn’t working.
In this article on the Search Engine Journal blog, Chandel explains what KPI’s we should be tracking for Pay per click advertising. Of-course there are the standard ones like clicks, CTR, Quality Score & cost Per Click. But Chandel also includes some KPI’s that a lot of Adwords marketers won’t be tracking, like Budget Attainment and Lifetime Value. If you run Adwords or PPC campaigns for client’s you should check out this article.4
